Jean-Baptiste Jean
Gathering to go to a Ceremony, c. 1975. Masonite,
18 x 24 inches
We note the carefully color-coordinated elements of clothing,
including the intriguingly mismatched stockings. A special
event is clearly in the offing, though whether it is of a
secular, religious, or secret society nature is not known
to us.
Jean-Baptiste Jean, born April 21, 1953 in Cap Haitien,
worked for a year at Cap Haitian's Branche Capois de Centre
d'Art with Philome Obin and Sully Obin before formally joining
the Centre in 1973.
