Nemours Vincent

"En 1915 Les Americaines Chassent Les Cacos à Mont Caneuf" (In 1915 the Americans Routed the Cacos at Mont Caneuf), c. 1975. Masonite, 29 x 35 inches

The painting memorializes the disastrous battle at Mont Caneuf, where the courageous Haitian rebel Army was overwhelmed by the vastly superior weaponry and troop numbers of the U.S. invaders.

Nemours Vincent was born April 10, 1949 in Cap Haitian where he attended Lycee Philippe Guerrier. He is said to have studied painting under Charles Anatole before joining the Centre d'Art in 1971.
